In the book, six-year-old, Madison and three-year-old, Brooke engage in a conversation about the color of their skin. While Madison realizes her skin is brown and goes on to compare her skin to her favorite chocolate delicacies, Brooke refuses to accept that skin can be compared to foods we eat. All the while, mommy is listening and reinforces to both girls, “Like all the colors of the rainbow, brown is beautiful. You are brown. You are beautiful because you are mama’s brown girls”
